03For a child and the grown-up beside them

Share a little
something.

A drawing, a line of words, a small arrangement.
Sharing can be an invitation. It never has to be the ending.

THREE SMALL PAUSES · ORIGINAL COMPANION INVITATIONS

Make room for the maker.

01

Before making

Offer paper and one or two familiar materials. Ask whether your child would like company, help, or room to try. “Not now” is an answer.

02

While making

Notice without naming what it must be: “You left a space here.” If your child tells you what it is, let their words lead. Ask before adding a mark yourself.

03

Before sharing

Ask whether they want to show it, give it, explain it, or keep it. A maker can change their mind. There is no audience to please and no need to photograph or post it.

What you might set out

One sheet of paper. A pencil or a few crayons. A clear place to work. If you choose arranging instead, use a few large objects appropriate for your child’s age, with a grown-up nearby. You do not need special supplies.

If a child asks you to write, use the words they choose. Leave space where they want it. A dedication can be added by hand after printing, or left out completely.
